The federal government is analyzing a project to connect the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Train, from Coatzacoalcos, with the Mayan Train, at its station in Palenque, so that the latter means of transportation will not be isolated.

At a conference of the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM), the director of the National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin), Carlos Mier y Terán Ordiales, informed that they are reviewing how to carry out this work to join the two train systems.

"Once the Mayan Train is finished, if Palenque is not connected to Coatzacoalcos, it will remain as an isolated train, a circuit, it is one of the projects that will have to be developed", mentioned the official.

Mier y Terán Ordiales explained that this project to connect the Mayan Train with that of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec will require a higher percentage of public investment to be viable and thus provide infrastructure to the southeast of the country.

"Most of the cargo for the southeast goes to the Yucatan Peninsula; it is one of the projects we have in our sights, but it is not yet developed," said the director of Fonadin. The official mentioned that if private companies continue to invest in already developed areas, public resources can be freed for the southeast of the country and thus achieve a regional balance.

On the other hand, the director of Fonadin, Carlos Mier y Terán Ordiales, informed that due to the fact that the federal government extended the concession of the Golfo-Centro highways from 14 to 30 years, a commitment was made to build several accesses to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), located in Santa Lucía.

He specified that the works to be carried out are the main trunk access to Tonatitla, the junction of the Mexico-Pachuca free highway and its modernization from four to eight lanes, the east side of the AIFA and the modernization of the road to San Jeronimo.
